“I am Halie McArdle. My program is the ABSN program.
“I knew I wanted to do something medical. I started working at a primary care office, and I worked there as a medication aide for a couple of years, and I really gravitated towards nursing after that. The nursing profession really brought my attention when I realized nurses spend a lot more time with patients than doctors. PAs. They get to do all the fun stuff, like IVs, tests. So, it's kind of developing that relationship with patients more.
“Looking at ABSN programs in my area, I thought Rockhurst was the one that fit me the best. It's very flexible. As soon as I reached out to that program, I got a lot of support from professors and advisers. They want us to be prepared. They want us to be educated, and they never want us to feel anxious going in. Having experienced professionals here and helping us get that education, and being supported, makes me feel like Rockhurst is the best place to go for nursing school, and I'm very glad I chose it.
“I've always liked online classes because you can go at whatever pace you want. All the notes are on there. All the lessons and everything is something you can always go back to. Having those professors who allow you to reach out whenever you want was always a good advantage. When you have a smaller program, it could be more intimate. Only having 25 people in the class was awesome. I just enjoyed getting to know everyone here. There's many specialties you can switch to and from, which is also a good flexibility about the profession.
“When you pass your boards, I think you prove to yourself that you can do it. Inspiring others, especially in this profession, can be tough. I think the people who really want to do it step out and they take that chance to go into it, and they figure out that they really love it. If it's something you really want to do, you're going to challenge yourself to do it. You're going to inspire others.”
