Biography

Dr. Friend’s 30 years of experience in education include faculty and administrative roles in educational leadership, graduate education and assessment. She began her career in K-12 schools as a middle grades principal and language arts teacher. Dr. Friend's research focuses on educational leadership and issues of social justice in U.S. public education. She is currently collaborating on an oral history and educational website project titled Kansas City Speaks: Stories of School Desegregation (see http://kcdeseg.com/). 

She is the co-author of the book, Great Expectations: What Kids Want from Our Urban Public Schools and co-editor of the book, Principal 2.0: Technology and Educational Leadership. Recent publications also have appeared in Educational Studies, Urban Education and Multicultural Perspectives.
