What is the ABSN Residency?

  • In their first semester, ABSN students will attend Rockhurst’s campus in Kansas City, Missouri, for 10 days of clinical instruction in our renovated nursing facility, for experiential learning in our state-of-the-art simulation lab as well as through direct patient care.

Residency Activities

  • Receive hands-on instruction from the Rockhurst faculty
  • Complete high- and low-fidelity simulation
  • Practice head to toe assessment, open skills lab, wound care, acute patient care, among other skills
  • Demonstrate competencies in various critical elements
  • Experience direct patient care through clinical rotations
  • Gain exposure to different spheres of care such as skilled nursing, hospice, and long-term and acute care settings

After the Residency

  • After the residency, students will return home for the remainder of the program where they will continue their online coursework. Additionally, students will complete the rest of their clinical hours at a predetermined site under the direct supervision of a licensed RN preceptor and the indirect supervision of a Rockhurst clinical faculty supervisor.
